My art is about the experience. It's about looking deeply and creating something worth seeing.
My art is about the experience. It's about looking deeply and creating something worth seeing. It's about creating more than what may appear at first glance. I focus on being present and experiencing deeper levels, even in the simplest moments. Each piece is a juxtaposition of two images from mainstream mass media from the last seven decades. I ask viewers to consider the relationship between the images creating the new one.
I am fascinated by the random, the accidental, and the fatalistic. I enjoy humor and surprises. I've always liked to ask why, push boundaries, challenge existing ideas, and see what happens. This artwork journey began in the halls of Art Center College of Design and the dark rooms of the University of New Mexico in the mid-1990s. I started with contact prints processed by hand. As the world digitized, some of my processes did too. However, I still create the black and white prints by hand in the darkroom.
